8 “beauty tips” you should ignore

Confession: I do not like reading women’s magazines. Most of them give us women crappy advice as far as beauty goes. They promote quick fixes that are not all great, some can do serious damage to your skin. I grew up reading these beauty tips and I’ve tried my fair share of them, with really bad results. Even now I read beauty advice on the internet that don’t make sense at all. I’ll share some of these ‘beauty tips’ today, so you don’t have to go through the same thing too! 1. Use Milk of Magnesia is a primer, if...

What I do before, while and after straightening my hair with a flat iron

As you know I have curly hair, but I like to wear it straight. Don’t get me wrong: I LOVE my curls, but wearing it straight is much easier to maintain for me. I’ve never chemically straightened my hair, but I do straighten it with a flat iron every other week. Here’s what I do before and while straightening my hair with a flat iron. Tips, tricks and what to avoid. Hope this is helpful. 🙂 • Before I start, I try not to crank up the heat all the way. I read somewhere that 410 works for every hair...

Tips for Bad Hair Days (courtesy of myself and the Aflac Duck)

This review and giveaway was made possible by iConnect Influencer Management and Aflac. I was compensated for my participation in this campaign, but all opinions are 100% mine. Bad hair days, who doesn’t have them? I’m the kind of person who loves doing my makeup, but when it comes to my hair…I rather skip it! Makeup is much more fun to do than hair, if you ask me. To make things worse: sometimes my hair just does not want to cooperate. Because I still want to look presentable, even on those bad hair days, I have come up with 3...

My biggest skin concern and what I do about it (+ a $50 gift card giveaway!)

If you ask me what my biggest personal skin concerns are, it’s definitely oily skin and pores. Pores are little openings in your skin that allow your body to flush out toxins: hair follicles, sweat glands and oil glands all end in pores. They regulate temperature and moisturize dry skin. Without these openings, your body wouldn’t be able to sweat and it would overheat. However, pores can also cause problems: dirt and oil buildup can cause oily skin and acne. Unfortunately, I have these issues. 🙁 This post is about my favorite way to handle big pores. Keep reading to...

Do NOT use baking soda to exfoliate your skin! Here’s why.

Yesterday, when I wrote about my favorite skincare product to exfoliate my face, a reader suggested using baking soda as a more affordable option. When I read her message, I wanted to scream. No girl, please do not use baking soda on your face! In fact, do not use baking soda at all for beauty purposes, at least not in homemade recipes! It sounds like a good idea, right? It’s cheap, natural and it probably works. So why spend your money om something else? Well, I will tell you why! Because baking soda can actually do a lot of damage...

Your beauty question ANSWERED: what’s your favorite skincare brand?

“Kizzy, what’s your favorite skincare brand?” I get the question above A LOT. Readers and friends always like to know what my favorite skincare brand is and also what my favorite makeup brand is. This is such a difficult question for me to answer, because I try and use so many different brands and each brand usually has its hits and misses. I mostly only review the products I like, but I’ve also written about products that didn’t work for me. I always try to be as informative as possible, because if it doesn’t work for me, that doesn’t mean...

Beauty question answered: Why would you use a Vitamin C serum?

Hi everyone! It’s been a few days, huh? My goal is to put a new blog post up every day, but sometimes it just doesn’t happen. These last few days it just didn’t happen, I’ll save you my excuses… 😀 While I was ‘away’, I did get a beauty question in my inbox: “I’ve noticed that you’ve been using Vitamin C serums for a while. Why exactly and which brand do you recommend?” Thanks for your question! Yes, I’ve been using a Vitamin C serum on my face for a while now. I’ve been trying out different brands to review...

Beauty question answered: How do you know when a mascara is done?

Happy Easter! I don’t have an Easter related post today, but I do have a ‘beauty 101’ for people who are just starting with makeup. It’s been a while since I’ve done a beauty question answered, but I saw someone leave this question under a makeup YouTube video and it’s a question that I’ve personally heard before! The question is: “How do you know when a mascara is done? I always feel like there’s product in the tube even though it’s been a few months”. my current mascara: Lush by Victoria Jackson The answer? When your mascara is dry, clumpy...

Beauty Question: Is there a product you feel guilty buying?

It’s time for another beauty question! Today’s topic is GUILT: Is there a beauty product you feel guilty buying? Every time I buy another MAC lipstick, I feel guilty. For me it’s definitely lipstick. I have soooo many lipsticks in the same shade range, that buying more is just ridiculous. Every time I buy a new lipstick, my head almost explodes from guilt. I always have an excuse though: it’s pretty, the formula is awesome, I ‘have to have’ it, it’s limited edition, it’s cheap, it’s unique etc. etc. The guilt disappears quick though… 😀 What about you?Read more...

Beauty tip: Vitamin C serum for face (my favorite is by New Radiance Naturals)

As you probably already know, for the last couple of months I’ve been using Vitamin C on my face at night. It has helped my skin a lot as it’s been looking much better! Much brighter! There are different kinds of Vitamin C and ascorbic acid is the most used form of Vitamin C in skin care products. It also has the most research of any form when it comes to benefits for skin. In today’s post I’ll tell you how I’ve been using Vitamin C, which form I’ve been using and why I love it so much. It has...

A makeup rediscovery: Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Full Coverage Foundation

I have officially run out of my black|Up Matifying Fluid Foundation. It’s sad, because I love that foundation and the brand black Up is not available in stores in the US. Of course I could order it online, but I currently have so many foundations in my collection that buying a new one is not wise! I really need to finish the ones I have, before they go bad. So last night I was looking through my stash and I discovered a Tarte foundation that I bought almost two years ago: Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Full Coverage Foundation. A makeup...
