Review: Milani Prime Shield Mattifying and Pore-Minimizing Face Primer

03 May 2016

I think I’ve complained about my oily skin at least a million times now on my blog. I’m pretty sure you’re sick of hearing it. 😀 Fact is, almost every product I use and review is targeted at oily skin, especially my makeup. I’m always looking for the something better, something that controls my oil and keeps me matte for a longer period of time. When Milani came out with two new face primers, one of which being mattifying, I couldn’t wait to try it!

Milani came out with the Prime Perfection Hydrating + Pore-Minimizing Face Primer, in a white tube, that is supposed to give you an illuminating and flawless finish and the one I’m reviewing today: the Prime Shield Mattifying & Pore-Minimizing Face Primer, which comes in a black tube. ‘Prime Shield’ is meant to give you a matte finish. Below is how this primer described on Milani’s website:

How it’s described
‘Meet the invisible but powerful answer to picture-perfect skin! Prime Shield Mattifying + Pore-Minimizing Face Primer softens the appearance of fine lines, large pores and flaws and creates a smooth canvas for makeup application. This translucent primer blends invisibly onto the skin, resulting in a beautiful matte finish.’

Ingredients: Dimethicone, Disiloxane, Isononyl Isononanoate, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Silica, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Butylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hexylene Glycol.

It’s a translucent primer that, when looking at the ingredient list above, is mostly silicones. It reminds me a lot of Photo Finish by Smashbox. I’ve been using it for a couple of months now (I actually just finished my tube and that reminded me to do this review!) and I love it! It goes on smoothly, minimizes the appearance of my pores, doesn’t leave a weird film on my skin and it does indeed keep me matte for a really long time. 🙂

I’ve been using it on a daily basis, also on the days that I’m not wearing makeup, just on top of my moisturizer and it hasn’t broken me out. It’s a great base for makeup and it also works great when not wearing makeup. Keeps me matte all day and makes my skin looks more smooth than it is.

Milani’s Prime Shield Mattifying & Pore-Minimizing Face Primer retails for around $9.99 and is available at the drugstore and most grocery stores. It’s a relatively small tube (0.68 fl. oz / 20 ml), but still very affordable! If you have oily skin or large pores, go get it!
