Review: Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Liquid Foundation

15 Apr 2016

I’m going to start off this review by saying that I’m normally not a big fan of drugstore foundations. There are a few exceptions, but overall they do not work for my skin type. As you know, I have extremely oily skin (without the right foundation I can mattify my skin the best I can in the morning, but still end up looking like an greaseball an hour later).
Also, my skin is very sensitive: I’m acne prone, which means I break out really easily (due to hormones, certain foods etc). I try to stay away from drugstore liquid foundations, because most of the ones I’ve tried do not keep me matte for that long or break me out due to the cheap ingredients.

That being said, I was sent the Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless Liquid Foundation by Influenster in a Voxbox (thank you, Influenster!). I wasn’t all that excited to try it at first (because of the reasons mentioned), but because I had heard so many people rave about it, I did want to try it for myself. You see, this foundation claims to be lightweight and mattifying, eliminating the look of pores and achieving natural looking skin. I’m all for foundations with a matte finish that are not heavy (looking), so of course this claim made me curious! 🙂 This is how it’s described on the site:

This ultra-lightweight foundation contains micro-powders that absorb oil for a matte and poreless-looking finish. Unique formula goes beyond matching just skintone and also matches the texture of normal to oily skin for the ultimate natural fit. Dermatologist and allergy tested, this mattifying foundation does not clog pores and is oil-free.

I’ve been trying it off and on for a while now and I gotta say: well done, Maybelline! This foundation definitely compares to the high end foundations I’ve tried. 🙂 Below are my findings.

• Wears well and goes on smooth (doesn’t feel heavy)
• Medium coverage that’s ‘buildable’, still looks very natural
• Hides most of my pores
• Keeps me matte for a while
• Great shade match (I wear shade Classic Tan 335)
• Doesn’t clog my pores or break me out

On the website it says to apply Fit Me! with your fingers. I hate using my fingers when putting on makeup, so I’ve been using an IT Cosmetics foundation brush and it works great! Great coverage, nice looking finish and a perfect shade match. It keeps me dry for at least half a day and when I do get oily, it’s only around my nose and on my chin. I love it! On some days I would even forget that I was wearing any makeup (that’s a really good sign!). 🙂 Swatch below.

Maybelline put out two types of their Fit me! foundation: one for normal to oily skin (the one I have) and one for normal to dry skin, called the ‘Fit Me Dewy + Smooth foundation’. They both have 40 shades to them which is awesome! The only thing I don’t like, is that it does not come with a pump. You can buy a separate pump online though (here for example).

Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Liquid Foundation retails for around $6 at drugstores and grocery stores, but you can usually find it for less. If you have oily skin or large pores, definitely try it! 🙂
