Review: Catrice Prime & Fine Mattifying Powder waterproof (Catrice is now available at Ulta!)

15 Jul 2015

For those who haven’t heard: Catrice Cosmetics is coming to the US! Catrice is a German brand owned by Cosnova Beauty (Cosnova also owns Essence Cosmetics) and is very popular in Europe. It’s a very affordable drugstore brand, especially in Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands. Catrice has always been a hard to find brand in the US, but like I said: Catrice is coming to the US! Ulta has started carrying a selection of their products online and they will be adding more in the near future. Catrice will be also be sold in select Ulta stores across the US. Yes! 🙂

I’ve been using Catrice products ever since I can remember. If you’ve been following my blog, you know that I was born and raised in The Netherlands. I moved to the US 5 years ago. I’m currently in The Netherlands as you probably know and when I first got here I, of course, had the check out what’s new with Catrice! One of the products I picked up was their Prime and Fine Mattifying Powder Waterproof, which I’ll be reviewing today.

How it’s described

Innovation! When this powder comes into contact with water, the drops simply roll off the surface. This allows it to withstand humidity and mattifies your skin for hours. The delicate formula with a soft filter effect ensures a visibly flawless and refined complexion. The transparent colour adapts to every skin tone. Enriched with vitamin A and E. Thanks to the integrated mirror, this powder is a true must-have when you’re on the go.

Ingredients
ALC, ZEA MAYS (CORN) STARCH, DIMETHICONE, ZINC STEARATE, TRIETHYLHEXANOIN, SILICA, PENTAERYTHRITYL TETRAISOSTEARATE, POTASSIUM SORBATE, VP / HEXADECENE COPOLYMER, DIMETHICONOL, ASCORBYL TETRAISOPALMITATE, TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, RETINYL PALMITATE, HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SEED OIL, BHT, PHENOXYETHANOL, CI 77491, CI 77492 (IRON OXIDES).

My thoughts
Catrice’s Prime and Fine Mattifying Powder Waterproof does indeed mattify my face. I carry it with me throughout the day and blot my face when needed. It does not keep my face matte for longer than a few hours, but I did not expect that anyway (my skin is super oily).

I love the compact: it’s nice, sleek and it has a mirror. Not a lot of drugstore compacts come with a mirror these days, so it’s definitely a plus! The powder itself feels soft and luxurious.

It’s a little smoother than regular powders, probably because it contains silicone (dimethicone), which is supposed to make it ‘waterproof’. Even though it looks white (almost cream), it does NOT leave a white cast or make my face look weird. It goes on transparent, even on my brown skin and keeps my face matte for a few hours.

As far as it being waterproof: I don’t think so! When this powder comes into contact with water, the drops are supposed to ‘roll off the surface’. I was actually walking through the rain just this morning (yuk) and my face got wet like it normally does. LOL! 😀

I think this is a great product, especially for its price! it you’re looking for a good mattifying powder to throw in your purse, I’d definitely recommend this one!

Where to buy
You can now purchase Catrice Cosmetics on the Ulta site, you can find the brand in the What’s New section. Starting in August you can also find it at a select amount of Ulta stores. In the Netherlands you can find it at Kruidvat and Trekpleister. The Prime and Fine Mattifying Powder Waterproof retails for €4,99 (9 g/0.31 oz).
