What happens when you get gel nails for too long…
05 Jun 2015
Since the beginning of this year, I’ve been wearing gel polishes on my nails. These are long-lasting polishes cured under UV lamps. After almost 6 months I’ve finally gotten them removed and now I’ve literally forgotten how to paint my own nails! I’m not even kidding, guys. 😀
I was getting gel (also known as ‘Shellac’) done at a nail salon and whenever the new growth hit a certain length (when it just didn’t look presentable anymore), I got them redone. This was normally after a month or two (or three). This is when I went back and got yelled at for not coming back sooner…
Anyway, before I left for my trip to Holland about a week ago, I had the gel removed, because I had missed doing my own nails and switching colors every week. But boy oh boy… painting your nails is not that easy! I felt like a newbie today, when I had to do it myself. Haha!
Because I planned on posting my manicure for today’s blog post, I’m posting these *fail* pictures anyway. I’m not content with results: I applied two coats that were clearly too thick and the whole thing looks really streaky to me. Not to mention my cuticles could use some love as well… First world problems? Perhaps.
Check out the pictures below.
I wish I could blame the products I used, but I really can’t. I used some great polishes! First, I applied Formula X for Sephora’s Base Coat (I have a little mini one) and on top I put My Empire…My Rules from the Nicole by OPI Kardashian Collection. This is a warm taupe brown. Lastly, I applied a layer of the Glisten & Glow HK Girl Fast Drying + Super Shiny Top Coat.
By the way, the HK Girl Top Coat is new to me (purchased it during their Memorial Day sale), this was my first time using it. I’m going to try it out for a few more weeks and then write a review on it.
Has this happened to you before? 🙂
