Review: Tretinoin Cream (get it without a prescription!)

17 Oct 2014

A while back I was contacted by someone who wanted to know if I was interested in trying something from the brand Dermesse. Dermesse offers prescription and non-prescription strength skin care products online, that could previously only be purchased at plastic surgeon or dermatologist offices. They offer full skin care systems, acne treatments, anti-aging formulas, eye care, sun protection, moisturizers and cleansers.

I looked around on the website decided to go try out ‘Tretinoin’, a topical treatment. Tretinoin is a prescription treatment, meant to treat acne. I’ve tried it in the past and it works wonders on my skin. I was curious to see if I would have the same results again. Below is my full review.

What it is:
Tretinoin is a topical retinoid used to treat mild to moderate acne and is especially effective for those with comedonal acne (many blackheads and whiteheads). It’s also known as Retin-A. Tretinoin is a powerful acne treatment medication, derived from vitamin A. It rapidly exfoliates the skin, keeping pores clear of cellular debris and preventing the formation of comedones.
Its advantages go beyond clearing acne: for example, people who have post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation may find that Retinoin reduces the look of dark spots and discoloration left by acne breakouts. Also, adult acne sufferers benefit from the other popular use of Retinoin: It can reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles.

Dermesse offers a whole line of prescription tretinoin products. No matter what kind of skin you have, this medication is available in three different strengths so that it will be effective for all types of skin. Your skin care professional can help recommend the right strength to get the best results. Source: 1, 2

Ingredients:
Tretinoin, Stearic Acid, Isopropyl Myristate, Polyoxyl 40 Stearate, Stearyl Alcohol, Xanthan Gum, Sorbic Acid, Butylated Hydroxytoluene, Purified Water.

My thoughts:
As mentioned, I’ve tried Tretinoin in the past, through a dermatologist, and back then I was prescribed the highest strength, which I now got as well. I’ve been using it daily for almost 3 months now and my skin has been looking super nice! I saw results pretty fast, after a month or so.

I use it at night, before bed. Good thing to mention is that you’re not supposed to apply Tretinoin during the day, because it will not work in daylight. So I use this at night and my other face product (this serum I mentioned not too long ago), that one I apply during the day in combination with a sunscreen. Always use sunscreen by the way, when you’re using tretinoin.

Most, if not all, of my acne scars (little dark spots) are completely gone. Now I don’t feel ‘weird’ going out without makeup or taking pictures. Those with acne will understand what I mean! I still get a breakout every now and then, but I don’t get those cystic breakouts (those painful pimples under your skin) anymore. Tretinoin Cream 0.1% is gentle to the skin, but still very effective in fighting breakouts and preventing new acne from popping up.

If you’re my age and suffer from acne, please, please, please give Tretinoin a chance! It really works! 🙂 It might take a month or two to ‘kick in’, just be patient. And if you’re not sure which strength to get, I would suggest starting with 0.05%.

Where to buy:
The Tretinoin Cream comes in 3 strengths (0.025%, 0.05% and 0.1%) and retails for $189.00 (20 g). Yes, this is a lot of money, but like I said Tretinoin is VERY effective and recommended by most dermatologists. If you suffer from adult acne and you can’t get rid of it, this might be the answer to your problem. 🙂

Dermesse was previously only available through dermatologist’s offices or plastic surgeon’s offices. This has now changed! You now order directly from dermesse.com
You place your order, complete the online medical assessment (a few questions, really!) and the products will be delivered to you within 48 hours. If they require any additional information, they will contact you. Very easy, I had no issues ordering mine. Good luck!

  3. Kizzyy,
Thanks for all the information. Ive been an acne sufferer for many years and have many scars to show for it. I just recently ( last year) started using tretinoin cream. Without the funds to go to a dermatologist i researched where I could possibly purchase it from. Most of the sites I came across where from overseas and the shipping time was crazy. I now started purchasing from skincareproducts4u.com the shipping time is wonderful. Normaly 3 to 5 days. rather than 10 to 15 when ordering from overseas.
