Beauty tip! Oily skin? Try this mattifying sunscreen with SPF 50+ when in the sun
21 Jul 2014
If you’re an oily girl like me, you understand that sun, sweat and oily skin don’t mesh. It’s horrible, to say the least. Because my skin gets really oily (and not just my t-zone), I tend to rely on a primer to keep my face somewhat matte throughout the day, even if I’m not wearing any face makeup. Completely matte it never stays, but applying a primer on my face in the morning does help. In the Summer, however, when it’s hot out, even a primer can’t save my face. I sweat (upper lip sweat…gross!) and, to make it even worse, I wear sunscreen (yes, us brown girls must wear sunscreen too), which makes my face even more shiny. Because I don’t like to look like a dirty grease ball (who does?), I’ve been looking for a face sunscreen that protects my face from the sun obviously, is not greasy/oily AND keeps my face from producing so much oil. Oh, and that doesn’t give me a white cast either! Keep in mind that I not only have oily skin, I have sensitive skin too. If I stay in the sun too long, I get little bumps…imagine that. But guess what? I found a sunscreen that does all this! It’s the Anthelios SPF50+ Dry Touch Gel-Cream by French skin care brand La Roche Posay.
What it is:
This is a sunscreen that I purchased in the Netherlands. If you’re in the US, you will probably not be able to find this exact product. Not with the exact name at least. Most likely it will look like the sunscreens pictured below. The closest to it is the Daily Anti-Aging Primer with SPF 50 (second on the left), I believe.
Both the Anthelios 50 and the Anthelios SPF50+ Dry Touch Gel-Cream have the following in common:
• UVA and UVB filters to provide Broad Spectrum protection.
• A powerful Antioxidant complex to help protect skin from free radicals caused by UV rays and that can cause premature skin aging.
• Contains micro-reflecting and absorbing powders to instantly smoothe imperfections and absorb excess sebum in combination and oily skin.
Why it’s perfect for oily skin:
The reason this is an awesome product for us oily girls is that this sunscreen has a gel/cream in a dry-touch texture:
• It is absorbed immediately
• Has a dry and matte finish
• Mattifying throughout the day
• Does not give you a white cast or white stripes, like most other sunscreens do
• It is waterproof
• Fragrance free
• Does not contain parabens
• Doesn’t break you out (I would know, I have very sensitive skin)
What else can you wish for? Nothing right? It basically is everything you’re looking for in a sunscreen to wear on your face (under makeup) on a daily basis. It controls the oil production on your face, doesn’t make you look like a ghost and it protects your face against UV rays from the sun that damage skin and cause skin cancers. Great stuff!
Where to buy:
You can find La Roche Posay’s Anthelios SPF50+ Dry Touch Gel-Cream at large pharmacies in the Netherlands. I purchased it online (Farmaline.be) for € 14,00 (50 ml), which was cheaper than getting it in stores. If you’re in the US, you can find it at select CVS drugstores (name and packaging will be different, see above) or on La Roche Posay’s website. La Roche Posay is made in France and therefore a little more expensive in the US. However, I definitely see myself repurchasing it when I’m back in the US. It’s the best sunscreen I’ve found so far for my oily skin!
