Weird beauty tricks that work (for me)!

07 Jul 2014

As a beauty blogger I always hear of ridiculous beauty tricks that sound too good to be true, but guess what? Some of these actually work! Here are some weird beauty tricks that have worked for me personally and that I will continue to apply/use in the future. I find that each one of these delivers great results! I hope this post is helpful and that some of your most frustrating beauty problems will be solved instantly. 😉

I use my son’s diaper rash cream
The first item on my list of weird beauty tips that work is geared towards moms with small children. I use Mason’s diaper rash cream to help with dry skin on my feet and elbows! Diaper rash cream really helps heal cracked elbows and feet. It has moisturizers and anti-inflammatory ingredients that help to hydrate and repair your skin. Works every time! Mason and I swear by Aveeno’s Baby Diaper Rash Cream.

I dip my freshly painted nails in ice water
Don’t have time to wait for your nail polish to dry? I, of course, apply fast-drying top coats, but when I’m in a rush I also dip my fingers in cold water for a couple of minutes after I’m done painting them. My nails will come out dry and I’m ready to move on to something else. W00t! And when I’m in a super rush, I add a few ice cubes to the water.

I use vinegar to make my manicure last longer
And speaking of nails: a couple of weeks ago one of my friends mentioned a vinegar trick that makes her manicures last longer. She told me to take a cotton pad and dip it in vinegar then swipe it over my bare nails. Then, after it’s dry, to polish my nails as usual. The vinegar will make your nail polish will last longer! I tried it and it really works!
The theory behind it is that the vinegar dries out the nail surface, removing any moisture or residue that could come between the nail and the first coat, making the nail polish adhere better and thus extending the life of your manicure.

I deep condition my hair with olive oil
When I have some spare time before jumping in the shower to wash my hair, I let olive oil sit in my hair for about 10 minutes. Olive oil helps to improve hair health by adding nutrients and healthy fats to your roots, so using it as a deep conditioning treatment will work to make hair silkier. By the way, it has also been said that olive oil can help make your hair grow faster, but that unfortunately that is not true…

I prime my oily skin with Milk of Magnesia
Milk of Magnesia (a laxative medicine) may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of beauty, BUT it’s the best thing I’ve used to leave my oily skin looking matte! Better than any primer sold at Sephora. After cleansing and drying my face, I apply a little Milk of Magnesia with a cotton pat and then I let it dry. I use this instead of a primer and before I apply my foundation. It keeps my face oil-free for a long time!

I de-bloat with apple cider vinegar
People who know me, know I love to eat! I love going to restaurants once in a while and pig out! Unfortunately this comes with a price… Whenever I feel like a bloated mess, I mix 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with half a glass of water and drink up. It’s disgusting, but it works! Within 30 minutes, the vinegar’s enzymes will slow down your gastric juice production and start flushing away the bloat.

  4. Hey die creme ga ik ook proberen voor m’n ellebogen. Die zijn vaak kurkdroog 😀 Denk je dat Sudocrem of eentje van Kruidvat ofzo soortgelijke ingrediënten bevat? Dan kan ik die halen.

  5. Ja, Sudocrem. Precies dat!
