Last month I mentioned the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in the shade Radiant Light as being my number 1 on my Sephora Wish List. I did end up ordering it (you knew I would, right?) and I’ve been using it quite often. Yesterday I posted my ‘face of the day’ (here) and I showed you a picture of me wearing this powder. I love it! It gives me a BEAUTIFUL glow without being shimmery or all that noticeable. Below is my full review.
What is it?
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder is ‘a universal finishing powder that features state-of-the-art technology to recreate the most exquisitely flattering types of light’. All Ambient Lighting Powders are free of talc, gluten, fragrance and nanoparticles. They are available in 6 shades from least pearl to most pearl. (source)
As mentioned I have it in the shade Radiant Light, which is described as a ‘sun-kissed golden beige that enhances the overall complexion with believable, subtle warmth’. Before ordering it online, I did go to Sephora and ask the makeup artist there which of the 6 she would recommend for me. She told me to get this one. Below are my thoughts.
So this is a finishing powder: you’re not supposed to wear it on its own, but you apply it on top of liquid foundation (or tinted moisturizer), in stead of a regular setting powder. I got it in this particular shade, because this one is not super pearly (is that a word?), but it does give you a subtle, natural glow. You can’t really tell in regular light, but when the sun hits your face, it’s beautiful!
According to Hourglass this powder makes you appear softer, younger and lit-from-within. I agree. It’s very natural looking too. And for my fellow oily-skinned girls: this powder does not make my skin more oily and it doesn’t make me look greasy at the end of the day either. It makes my skin look warmer instead. The word ‘sun-kissed’ definitely comes to mind.
Below are some swatches, pictures were taken inside.
As you can see there are no glitters or shimmers. And of course on your face you would blend it out more and it won’t look this ‘obvious’. I use my big fluffy brush from it Cosmetics to apply it, the Heavenly Luxe brush (this one).
These swatches are just to give you an idea. They don’t do it justice at all! When blended out, it’s hardly visible. And when the sun hits your face…gorgeous! Here’s a picture of me wearing it on top of my foundation with just blush, it was taken at the end of the day, without blotting or anything.
Where to buy:
You can find Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders (there are 6 shades in total) at Sephora and Hourglasscosmetics.com. They retail for $45 (you get 0.35 oz). A little pricey, but I definitely don’t regret purchasing it. I can see this become a staple in my makeup routine. In fact, I can’t wait to use this powder in the summertime.
If you’re not sure which shade to get (I myself had no clue), go into a Sephora and ask one of the makeup artists. I’m sure they’ll be happy to help. Yep, treat yourself and go get yourself one of these beauties!
