It’s probably ‘old news’ by now (the Oscars were a couple of days ago), but I do want to take a minute and acknowledge Oscar winner and beauty Lupita Nyong’o! By now Lupita is a household name after she took home the Oscar for Best Actress in A Supporting Role for her role in 12 Years a Slave (a movie I haven’t seen yet, but really want to!).

Lupita has been completely blowing up the beauty world and for good reason. :-) She’s become a great example of how to wear (and pair) bright, bold colors and makeup on the red carpet. I love that she wears bright colors, her own natural (short!) hair like it’s an everyday thing. Lupita shows that you don’t need to be light-skinned, or wear a long weave and apply ‘safe’ makeup to look beautiful and glamorous. I love it!

Here she is wearing a pleated, powder-blue Grecian gown custom designed by Prada. Stunning! Lupita gave a shout-out to her roots, calling the dress ‘Nairobi Blue’. The star of her makeup is of course her fresh and glossy lipstick. The color is rumored to be Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in the shade Melodieuse (see below). Perfect for Spring if you ask me! You can find it at Nordstrom for $35.

Last but not least, I NEED to mention the fact that Lupita is the first African woman to win an Academy Award! She was born in Mexico but raised in Nairobi and comes from a prominent Kenyan political family. As an African woman myself (my parents were born in Cabo Verde) this makes me proud! Congratulations, Lupita! You are an inspiration.
