Traveling with makeup on an airline (how I pack)
18 Feb 2014
If you caught this post from a couple of days ago, you know that I’ve recently traveled to the Netherlands. I was done with the snow in Kentucky and decided to visit my family in Europe where it’s a little bit warmer. 😉
Now that you’ve probably also seen the contents of my makeup bag (part 2 will follow tomorrow), I thought I would share how I go about packing my makeup. One thing I always try to keep in mind when packing my clothes is to be organized and make things simple. As for my makeup, the greatest tip I probably got is: stick with the essentials!
In an ideal world I would love to pack my WHOLE makeup stash, especially for long trips across the world, like my current trip. But trust me, you won’t get through all of them. You wouldn’t need all of them. You wouldn’t even touch all of it. So to save myself all the trouble I leave most of it at home. Besides, I wouldn’t want any of my makeup to break or get lost during transportation.
So pictured above is the makeup bag I brought with me for the whole trip from Cincinnati to Amsterdam, along with a small size Ziploc bag (a sandwich bag) for the liquid items that I thought I needed during my flight, like deodorant, lipbalm and hand lotion (my hands get extremely dry during flights).
Here’s the thing: I pack most of my makeup in my carry-on that I take with me into the plane. I would advice you to do the same! I personally would hate for my makeup to get lost! The large bottles (foundation, setting spray, hair products etc.) I DO pack in the suitcase that I check-in. As you probably know, TSA regulations prohibits carrying liquid or gel items on board that’s more that 3 oz. Anything more than 3 oz has to be checked-in your luggage and if it’s found in your carry-on it’s most likely going to get tossed out… Imagine that! So yeah, for this reason I keep it simple.
So I’m curious: how do you pack your makeup? And do you take it with you into the plane or do you pack it in your luggage?
Funny story, right when I was preparing for my trip I received a press release in my mailbox about a liquid carrying case that will be launching soon (it’s not out yet), called the Airsafe Carryon. This is a light-weight and easy-to-use carrying case designed to allow travelers to bring their own products from home in a case. This is how it’s described:
Airsafe Carryon is the only hassle-free, leak-proof travel system that ends the nightmare of traveling with personal liquids. Our innovative liquid travel case is guaranteed leak-proof and made from next-generation plastics that are durable yet BPA-free, food-grade, easy to use, and dishwasher safe.
And this is how it looks like.
It got me all excited, because look how cute this is! I immediately started thinking of different reasons why I should own this ASAP. See, for me, this would be handy:
– when I’m going on a long flight (like for my yearly trips to Europe);
– when I don’t want to check-in any luggage (for example for our quick flights to California);
– when I get stranded at an airport again without any luggage (this has happened to me once, I had to wait 24 hours ’till my next flight and had to stay in a hotel without any off my stuff).
With a compact case like this one, I’d have all my personal essentials with me in a neat, leak-proof case that’s not too heavy to carry around. Sweet! Airsafe Carryon, if you’re reading this: hurry up and launch already! 😀
