Stuck for Valentine’s ideas? Give the gift of a once-in-a-lifetime experience

Back in 2011, teen idol Justin Bieber reportedly spent around $2,000 cleaning a single florist out of roses, tulips and daisies to give to his then-girlfriend Selena Gomez. But it’s not just the boys splashing inordinate amounts of cash on their significant others – the girls can be even worse. Angelina Jolie allegedly spent nearly $20,000 on an ancient olive tree for Brad Pitt. Why did he need an olive tree? To go in the garden of their French chateau, of course.

With all of this celebrity excess, it’s perhaps understandable that us mere mortals might feel slightly inadequate with our comparatively meagre Valentine’s Day offerings – but then again, surely it’s the thought that counts?

Aside from the astronomical heights of celebrity incomes, what these slightly bizarre gifts also highlight is the fact that buying presents for partners – and particularly men – can be difficult. If you know that your man has a penchant for a particular niche activity, then you may have a clearer idea of where to shop, but a lot of men can be difficult to buy for.

If you’re low on inspiration this year, then ‘Experience Days’ are a great choice for men who like to do things, rather than be given more bits and pieces to clutter up their homes. You could opt to give him the chance to go skydiving, or he could learn to fly or bungee jump, but the man who loves cars will be particularly well-served by the range of experience days on offer.

Any Bond fan will relish the chance to drive an Aston Martin, especially with the help of a qualified instructor to teach him the most ambitious manoeuvres. Other petrol-head favourites like the Lamborghini are also available for a high octane spin, and you can even find packages that allow him to try a series of different cars.

If he has dreams of being Jenson Button or Michael Schumacher, you may want to check out the chance for him to drive at Silverstone, home of the British Grand Prix. He can then choose whether he wants the rally car experience or to try his hand at a Ferrari.

If you’d like to send your man off to a race track for the day, or simply want inspiration for more conventional gifts, there are plenty of Valentine’s gifts for him at Very.co.uk that are sure to make his day.

You can leave a response. And just a heads up: if you see a comment in a foreign language, it’s probably Dutch. I have a lot of readers from The Netherlands.
