After my somewhat negative review on an eye primer I was using (read that review here), I got a lot of suggestions from you guys for other eye primers to use. A lot of you recommended elf’s Essential Eyelid Primer, an eyeshadow base that retails for just a dollar! I had never tried it before, so I headed over to the store (both my local Meijer and Target sell elf Cosmetics products) and picked one up. There are 4 shades (sheer, champagne, pearl, golden) and I got the original, called ‘sheer’.

How it’s described
From elf’s website: ‘preps your eyelid for smoother, longer-lasting and crease-proof eyeshadow. The lightweight liquid formula quickly absorbs into the skin for comfortable wear and increases eye color longevity.’

What are my thoughts?
I’ve been using it how I’m supposed to: I apply a thin coat to the eyelid and blend it in. I allow the formula to dry and then apply my liner and/or eyeshadow. The product is light tan and has no shimmer, it blends really well. If you’re not exactly sure what a primer is, check out this post I wrote on longer lasting eyeshadow.

I’ve been trying out this product for a couple of weeks now and I like it a lot! It works great. Even on my oily lids and even in this almost unbearable heat. My eye makeup lasts all day with creasing or fading. I can honestly say I’m never going to spend my money on higher priced eyelid primers anymore. This, to me, is comparable to Too Faced’s Shadow Insurance (a long time favorite of mine). Thanks everyone for the recommendation! :-)

Where to buy?
The Essential Eyelid Primer by elf retails for just $1 and can be found online on eyeslipsface.com. Click here to go to the product page. You can also find elf (‘eyes lips face’) Cosmetics at most Target and Meijer stores.

You can leave a response. And just a heads up: if you see a comment in a foreign language, it’s probably Dutch. I have a lot of readers from The Netherlands.
