Review: Sephora MicroSmooth Baked Face Powder (new in stores!)

12 Jun 2012

Hi everyone! I’ve been trying out a new foundation powder by Sephora. It’s new in stores and this is my review. 🙂

Sephora MicroSmooth Baked Face Powder

What is it?
Sephora’s MicroSmooth Baked Face Compact is a baked, matte foundation powder. It’s part of their new ‘Microsmooth’ collection. There are 8 different shades, ranging from 05 Porcelain to 60 Deep Ebony. The MicroSmooth collection also consists of blushes and bronzers.

This is how Sephora describes it:

An ultra-light foundation that blends effortlessly for a natural look and feel.

Flaunt a natural, picture-perfect look with these state-of-the-art face powders. The micronized, advance pigments blend seamlessly into the skin to enhance skintone and provide a flawless, no-makeup finish. Formulated with mineral water and shaped by hand, this foundation is slowly baked to achieve a unique airy texture that perfectly melts into the skin. Coverage can go from sheer to high, depending on the amount used. The fine powder forms the perfect match to your complexion with a lightweight, breathable feel—forget cakey.

What are my thoughts?
This foundation is AWESOME! It covers well and doesn’t look cakey at all. The powder itself is very finely milled (hence the name microsmooth, I guess!). It has green tea in it to calm the skin and reduce redness. It also contains mineral water to make it buildable and help keep the skin moisturized. Nylon 12 to help it stay on longer and move with the skin and the sustainably harvested sea coral for a ‘satin’ finish.

There’s no shimmer or ‘radiance’, which makes is perfect for people with oily or combination skin. My color is 40 hazelnut, which is a great match for MAC’s NC45. I love it!

In short:

– It’s lightweight (doesn’t feel like foundation at all!)

– pretty good coverage (buildable too)

– A wide range of shades (my shade is a perfect match to my skin tone)

– Not irritating (hasn’t broken me out)

– Nice ‘flawless’ finish (doesn’t emphasize my pores)

– No parabens

– No synthetic fragrances

Where to buy?
You can find Sephora’s MicroSmooth Baked Face Powder at Sephora (I’m sure you would have guessed that… lol!). It’s also available on It retails for $22.00 (contains 7 grams).
If you’re looking for a new (powder) foundation, go check this out! You won’t regret it!

  1. Hey Kizzy,

This review might be a little old but I finally discovered Microsmooth from your post and love it. It also has a pretty good safety rating on makeupbff –

Is there an alternative that you’re currently using that my girlfriends and I may try Kizzy?
