A couple of weeks ago I posted a review about the Pomegranate Hair Cleansing Conditioner by Wen. I was extremely positive about this product and I still am. Ecstatic, really! I love this stuff! I got my friend Dina to use it too. She doesn’t have ‘ethnic’ hair like I do, but we do have the same hair type: thin, curly and frizzy. She loves Wen too. Go here to read my review from a little over a month ago (scroll down to the bottom to read my thoughts).
After that review I did get a lot of questions about washing with just a conditioner. Can you really clean your hair with just a conditioner? If so, can you just use a regular drugstore conditioner? Or do you have to buy Wen?
I did a little bit of research and I found some information on this that might be useful! source

These are Wen’s ingredients:
Water, glycerin, cetyl alcohol, rosemary leaf extract, wild cherry fruit extract, fig extract, chamomile extract, marigold flower extract, behentrimonium methosulfate, cetearyl alcohol, stearamidopropyl dimethylamine, amodimethicone, hydrolized wheat protein, polysorbate 60, panthenol, menthol, sweet almond oil, PEG-60 almond glycerides, methylisothiazolinone, methylchloroisothiazolinone, citric acid, essential oils.
If you just look at the functional ingredients and leave out extracts, preservatives and pH adjusters, it leaves the following:
Glycerin, cetyl alcohol, behentrimonium methosulfate, cetearyl alcohol, stearamidopropyl dimethylamine (SADMA), and amodimethicone.
From what I understand these are very common conditioner ingredients.
Can you really clean your hair with just a conditioner?
If your hair isn’t extremely dirty, you can clean your hair with just a conditioner just fine. Preferably a conditioner without silicone. Sulfates in most shampoos can be very damaging and stripping to hair. If your hair is very greasy, then cleansing conditioner won’t cut it. Chances are that cleansing with a conditioner will leave your hair feeling weighed down. So it really depends on how much product you have in your hair/how dirty your hair is.
I don’t put that many different products in my hair and I personally prefer Wen because of its 5-in-1 formula. This cleansing conditioner cleans hair without stripping it. One product takes the place of my shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler and leave-in conditioner. I love the fact that it detangles my hair without any effort (that’s the main issue with my hair: it tangles like crazy!) and it cleanses hair thoroughly but without lathering. My hair is left with sheen, moisture and manageability.
If you want try washing your hair with a cleansing conditioner, I really recommend Wen by Chaz Dean. You can find Wen on its official website or on Amazon (Amazon ships everywhere). If you don’t want to spend $28, try an inexpensive drugstore brand. And let me know how it works out!
By the way, Dina is currently trying out another (less expensive!) cleansing conditioner, one by Hair One. I might have her write a review to compare the two…
