Every now and then people ask me skincare or makeup related questions. I usually answer them directly, but sometimes I answer them here.

I received a couple of questions after I posted the Foundation how to blog post last week. Thanks again for that question, Natasha. It was a good one! One of the questions that followed, was the following:
Nadine asks: “I’m afraid to use liquid foundation because I never blend it well. You can clearly see where the foundation stops! help?”
Great question! I will try to answer this the best way I can, but remember that I’m not a make up artist. I’m just somebody who’s obsessed with make up and has tried a lot of different products…
The key to flawless foundation, in my opinion, is the brush you apply it with. It’s all about the tools! A good foundation brush makes it easy to spread the foundation on your face and produce a nice, sleek surface.
There are different kind of foundation brushes. I prefer the so-called flat top brushes. These have (can you guess?) a flat top, instead of a round one, which is perfect to ‘buff’ in your foundation. These work well with liquid, but I use them for powder foundation as well.
What I do is:
*I apply a little bit (two or three drops) of foundation on the back of my hand.
*I then dip my flat top brush in the foundation and swivel it around a bit.
*Next step is placing a few dots of the foundation on my cheeks, chin, forehead and nose.
*The last and most important step: I start blending. Blending means that I spread (buff) the product all over my face, moving in circular motions. I make sure there are no patches and that my face looks even.
I hope this makes sense?
Below are my favorite brushes to apply foundation with, which to me, are really key to getting a perfect application.

Mira Mineral Brush: sold at Kroger, I wrote about this brush here
Sonia Kashuk Synthetic Flat Blusher Brush: sold at Target, click here to find it on the site
Zoeva 104 Buffer Brush: click here to find it on Zoeva’s site
e.l.f. Studio Powder Brush (sold at Target, Meijer and on the e.l.f. site here)
There’s another one that I need to mention. I don’t own this one, but I’ve heard that this is the ‘queen’ of all foundation. It retails for a whopping $42.00:
MAC Cosmetics 187 Duo Fiber Brush: sold at MAC stores/counters and on the site here
Also, I recently ordered three face brushes from Sigma Beauty. Sigma brushes are supposed to be excellent brushes, comparable to MAC, but for a much for affordable price. Right now they’re (literally) in the mail on their way to me. I will keep you updated on my opinion on them.
I hope this was useful. If you have questions, don’t be shy. About this topic or anything else: just shoot!
