Guest blog: Blot Powders compared (by FreshDimez)

Today a guest blog by one of my close friends Dorothy, owner of Dutch beauty blog Freshdimez. Happy reading!!

Thinking of a topic and writing another guest blog for my dear friend’s blog was very exciting! I’ve tried and tested many different powders and today I will share my opinion on 3 of them. Kizzy has oily skin, while I have combination/dry skin with a shiny t-zone. This doesn’t compliment my overall make up look, so of course I had to find a solution. For a fresh faced look that last the entire day, I always carry a blot powder in my purse.

I’ve tried 3 different brands. Here’s the run down:

Blot Powder

Black Opal Invisible Oil Blocking Powder
I bought this compact powder a few years ago at a local beauty supply store in Amsterdam. It was love at first sight. Unfortunately, for me I didn’t finish this powder and stopped using it after a few months. It kept the shine away for a few hours, but at the same time it left my skin looking a little chalky. Not so attractive. At first I was in love with it, guess I was too happy that I finally found a powder that keeps the shine at bay. This Oil Blocking Powder is fragrance free and the color of it is white but is supposed to go clear and transparent on the skin. I didn’t finish this powder and stopped using it after a few months.

E.L.F. High Definition Powder
I was one of the many European e.l.f. customers who couldn’t wait for this powder to be available online at e.l.f. UK. This HD powder is almost if not completely similar to Make Up Forever’s best selling HD powder. This powder creates a soft focus look on your face. It also reduces fine lines and other imperfections when applied over make-up or by itself. And not unimportant, it keeps your skin matte for hours.

I really like this powder. It works well for me and is much cheaper than some of the high end brands available. Also, a little goes a long way. Just one swipe on my entire face and I’m done. What I don’t like about this loose powder is that it easily creates a mess. Luckily, I’ve found the perfect solution for that. I bought a refillable brush on eBay to keep the powder in. It works perfect and I can now carry the brush in my bag for touch ups during the day.

MAC Blot Powder
I use to have a love/hate relationship with this one. But after some counseling, we fell in love again. I’ll elaborate a little: when I bought this powder for the first time, the make up artist automatically picked the darkest color for me. And little did I know (and she too I guess?!) that the color Deep Dark was too dark for me, (my MAC foundation shade is NW45) and was also the cause for making my skin look ashy and grey-ish a few hours later. But years later I wanted to give this Blot powder another try. A few months ago I asked another make up artist which shade she thought would work best for me. The first shade she picked and tried on me was Dark.

Dark is perfect for my skin. It keeps my skin matte almost all day long! Even though this blot powder is almost translucent and doesn’t leave any color on your skin, make sure you get the shade that’s right for you. The only thing I hate is the puff that comes with this powder, so I’ve replaced it with a retractable pocket powder brush which I can wash as often as I like.

You can leave a response. And just a heads up: if you see a comment in a foreign language, it’s probably DUTCH.
