Moisturizer is probably the most misunderstood and misused skin care product out there! Here are some things I think you should know!
1. Women with oily, combination, or acne-prone skin do NOT need a moisturizer. However, moisturizers with high SPF will stop further skin damage, if they contain titanium dioxide or zinc oxide (these are minerals used a sunscreen ingredients).
I myself have oily skin and I’m currently using Aveeno’s Positively Ageless Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30 to protect my skin from the sun. I live in Ohio and it’s been about 33 degrees Celsius (91 degrees) every day for weeks now! I use this moisturizer as a sunscreen: only when I know I’m going be walking/sitting outside for more than 10 minutes.

2. Women with dry skin, wrinkled skin or dry areas DO need a moisturizer. Moisturizers do not prevent wrinkles, but they will make it look smoother. Moisturizers can smooth over, not change wrinkles. They visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines.
3. If you overuse your moisturizer, it can cause skin problems. Pores get clogged and blackheads can develop. Also dead skin cells get trapped and will have a hard time naturally sloughing off. This can make your skin look dull. Overdoing it can actually prevent your skin from repairing itself.
Now that you know that a moisturizer isn’t for everyone, does not mean that your skin doesn’t need the benefit of sunscreen ingredients or anti-irritants. It just means that you need to recognize the type of products you use that contain these kind of ingredients!
Have a good weekend everyone!! I’ll be back soon with a surprise!
