Ebony-Jewel commented on my latest ‘FOTD’ asking me about the Monistat: Soothing Care Chafing Relief Powder-Gel. This is a powder gel that works as a skin protectant. I use it as a foundation primer.

I started using the chafing gel as a foundation primer a while back until I start using the ‘Anti-wrinkle Velvet Touch foundation primer’ by Gosh, which I got during a sale. When I finished this primer (it’s only available in Europe), I switched back to Monistat.

The reason I started using this product as a primer is because I read a lot of reviews online saying that this gel has the same main ingredient as a foundation primer: dimethicone. That is why a lot of people started using it as a make up primer. It’s actually an exact dupe for Smashbox’s Photo Finish Foundation Primer, but it’s a lot cheaper!

Let’s break it down!

What they say it does: From moisture, heat, movement & shaving. Dries to silky finish. Provides on-the-go daily prevention and relief from chafing and irritation of skin in intimate, delicate areas like the inner thigh, bikini area, under arms and breasts.

The way I use it: I apply the gel to powder formula before I apply your foundation. This way I create a smooth canvas and blot off excess shine while keeping the skin feeling matte. Since it’s a clear gel, there’s on not a lot of visible difference. My skin is less shiny and my pores do look less visible.

Even though it’s not meant for it, I think it works great as a foundation primer. I use it with both liquid foundation and powder foundation. The ‘oxidation’ is reduced to a minimum. My skin does get somewhat oily, but not as much as when I don’t use a primer at all. Since this is a chafing gel it works to calm down sensitive areas, so that’s good too. I recommend this!
