This post is about acne. If you always have flawless skin, you can skip this.
I’m not covering every type of acne today, because not all acne is the same. To keep it simple: acne can be divided into: 1) red bumps and 2) blackheads/whiteheads.
This will be about blackheads and whiteheads only. It’s important to separate these from red bumps, because each type is treated differently. Blackheads and whiteheads, known as comedones, usually come in groups, compared to red bumps that are ‘loners’. In this post I will go into blackheads and whiteheads (I don’t discriminate!) and how to get rid of them.
Blackheads, also known as open comedones, are follicles that have a wider than normal opening. They are filled with plugs of sebum and sloughed-off cells and have undergone a chemical reaction resulting in the oxidation of melanin. This gives the material in the follicle the typical black color.
Whiteheads, also known as closed comedones, are follicles that are filled with the same material, but have only a microscopic opening to the skin surface. Since the air cannot reach the follicle, the material is not oxidized, and remains white.
How to get rid of them:
Both blackheads and whiteheads are caused by the stuff your skin naturally produces, like oil and dead cells, getting caught in your pores. If you can clean blackheads from your plugged pores, you’ll reduce the chance of acne. The best skin care for comedones consists of cleansing once or twice a day with a mild soap or facial scrub to help remove excess sebum and dead skin cells. In other words: good, consistent skin care can help get rid of comedones!
Sounds simple, right? There are some products out there to help you get rid of pore-clogging build up. A popular product that I use quite often are the ‘Deep Cleansing Pore Strips’ by Biore. These strips really remove most of the blackheads on my nose.
Speaking of removing blackheads, here’s a really disgusting video that all of you guys just have to see! evil laugh!
