I told my boo that I’ve started using my liquid mineral foundation again recently (yes, that’s what we talk about sometimes!) and his response was:
‘Mineral? Doesn’t that clog your pores? You mean, mineral oil?’
This is something that I hear quite often…. But people, Mineral make up and mineral oil are not the same!!
Mineral foundation is usually powder (but it can also be liquid!) and are made up of ingredients that are mostly mineral and sometimes cornstarch. Mineral makeup is based on a hypoallergenic loose powder that naturally nourishes the skin, contains no perfumes, talc, alcohol, dyes, mineral oil or preservatives.
Mineral oil is one of a number of inexpensive byproducts that are made from petroleum. Sometimes it is referred to as paraffin oil. Mineral oil is one of the worse things you can do for your skin. It cloggs your pores, because the skin has difficulties absorbing it. Many products use mineral oil for moisture because it will not spoil, unlike vegetable- or plant-based oils.
I’ve started using liquid foundation again, because my skin has been very dry lately. Especially around my jawline. I don’t know if it’s the change of climate or what… But yeah, I was using powder. Powder on dry skin is just not a good combination…It’s yucky!
Now I am using Maybelline’s Mineral Power Natural Perfecting Liquid Foundation, which I have used it the past before. This foundation has 100% micro-mineral pigments, 0% mineral oil (see?), 0% talc and 0% fragrance. Works great on my skin. I set it with the Mineral Power Translucent Loose Powder, also by Maybelline.
I hope the difference between mineral make up and mineral oil is clear now!
